As usual MID CityBeat is bopping around town trying good food and recommending cool places for you. Here are some good ones!
1. Alma Lima
Alma Lima Urban Bistro opened its doors last year as an urban bistro, breakfast, lunch and smoothie bar. It has awesome breakfast and the sandwiches are some of the best in town. My absolute favorite is the turkey made on artisan bread with cranberry sauce and served with potatoes and gravy. The coffees are excellent as well, which is always a make it or break it situation with me in a breakfast spot.
They have a great selection of smoothies, tisanas, fresh juices, and excellent coffee. On the menu there are a variety of dishes for breakfast as well as lunch specialties such as salads and sandwiches and the desserts are really good. It is an urban bistro cafe open now for breakfast, lunch and soon to be open for dinner too. It’s a beautiful place whose decorations are city chic and very inviting.

2. Fronto at Diez Diez Boutique Hotel
Fronto is a hot foodie spot located at the Diez Diez Collection Hotel on Calle 56 and 37, Centro just a block from Paseo de Montejo. They have great breakfasts, lunch and dinner. On the breakfast menu it has a variety of dishes from keto omelet to avocado toast and sweet potato pancakes. They serve sourdough bread with fresh jam and melted butter and the coffee was excellent, a make or break situation for me at a breakfast place! The dinner menu was designed by Chef Roberto Solis from Nectar restaurant and has some
really interesting dishes on the menu such as Cassava Root (yuca) pasta and lobster macaroni and cheese. They also have a trendy rooftop bar where you can get drinks and snacks off the menu and it’s a nice place to watch the sunset over Centro. A DJ also plays most nights both in Fronto restaurant (on the ground floor) and at the Rooftop bar. Fronto has been open for about a year and has an urban chic design with indoor and outdoor seating.
The Diez Diez Collection is a boutique hotel and its restaurant Fronto and the rooftop bar is a great addition to the culinary scene in Merida.

3. Ostro
Mediterranean Cuisine, Friends & Cocktails are the best combo if you are looking for a great place to eat! Ostro is a nice restaurant inspired by a Mediterranean kitchen in the City Center complex and is a lovely place for dinner. You overlook the Avenida Garcia Lavin and it has an outdoor balcony with a bar as well as an inside dining area.
They have different dishes: tapas, pitas, salmon and more. They offer a selection of mixology, as well as a nice wine list, beer and more. This is a cool restaurant in the contemporary north end of the city.

4. Casa de Pieda at Hacienda Xcanatun
Casa de Piedra is at Hacienda Xcanatun by Angsana
Hacienda Xcanatun was built in the 18th century and was used for the cultivation of corn and to
raise cattle and horses. In the mid-19th century it turned into a henequen plantation with the
industry boom that came to Yucatan. After the demand for the henequen plant dropped, the
owners left the rest of the buildings and it was used as a country home for those who lived in
Merida. Then with time and weather, such as Hurricane Gilbert in 1988, the hacienda became a
ruin.
In the 1990’s it was recovered by private owners and they turned it into a luxury hotel. Since that
time, it has been a great attraction for not only the beautiful rooms, but the spa, restaurant and
lovely gardens.
Casa de Piedra Restaurant is a perfect spot to go for a nice evening dinner at a romantic
hacienda setting or a morning breakfast listening to the birds. On Sundays they serve large
breakfast brunch buffets. The restaurant has typical Yucatean food and some international
dishes. It’s a local and MID City favorite.
