Mérida’s art scene continues to flourish this season, and one event not to miss is the Open Studio of artists Jessica Maan and Amelia Opalinska. On Saturday, November 22, these two talented creators invite the community to step inside their shared studio for a day of art, food, and music — a celebration of creativity and connection in the heart of Mérida Centro.
Their latest collaborative series, “Mapping Place and Colour,” explores the meeting point between abstraction and realism — a dialogue between the artists’ distinct approaches and how Yucatán’s light, texture, and color inform their work. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to meet the artists, view their creative process up close, and experience a space where ideas, pigment, and passion intertwine.
About Jessica Maan
Originally from Canada and now based in the Yucatán, Jessica Maan is a multidisciplinary artist best known for her luminous acrylic paintings that bridge realism and emotion. Her work celebrates color, geometry, and the poetry of everyday life, capturing moments of stillness and beauty that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Jessica describes her creative focus as an exploration of connection, solitude, stillness, and the art within simplicity. Each painting begins with photographs she takes during her travels or daily life — visual notes that she later transforms into richly layered compositions filled with light and feeling. Through her process, she seeks to convey the “magnetism of grace and allurement,” evoking the emotion of moments when the world seems to pause and beauty quietly reveals itself.
Her paintings have found a following among collectors for their refined technique and contemplative depth, and she continues to accept commissions that allow her to collaborate with clients in expressing their own stories through art.

About Amelia Opalinska
Born in a small village in southeastern Poland and raised in the United States, Amelia Opalinska has built an artistic career defined by exploration, texture, and transformation. A graduate of The College of Santa Fe in New Mexico, where she earned her B.F.A. in Photography, Amelia’s journey into mixed media painting reflects her lifelong fascination with process, experimentation, and the delicate balance between control and spontaneity.
Her layered canvases are dynamic and expressive — vivid compositions where color and texture seem to breathe and evolve before the viewer’s eyes. Amelia’s recent exhibitions, including “Trapitos al Sol” (El Zapote Galería, 2023), “Ojos, Agujas y Luciérnagas” (2024), and “Magic Lurks in Color” (2025), showcase her ability to merge technical skill with intuitive creation.
With her roots in photography and a growing body of painterly work, Amelia’s art celebrates the energy of discovery — each piece a journey through memory, material, and emotion.
