Sole MioÂ
Sole Mio is a wonderful, small, Italian restaurant serving some of the best home-cooked Italian food in town. Step inside and you will be transported to a cozy part of Italy with tables adorned with checkered cloths, wine bottles on shelves on the wall and an open kitchen with gorgeous smells wafting out.
Sole Mio is a delightful collaboration between Federico, Carolina and Juan Jose. Federico, who came to Merida 5 years ago from Genoa (Genova), is extremely proud of his work and is clearly very much in love with the food that is served here. A chef determined to share his passion, Federico gives gastronomy classes at one of the universities in Merida and met Juan Jose and his cousin Carolina 3 years ago. They are from Guerrero and together they decided to bring the taste of Italy to a quiet street of Merida. Regularly discovering new recipes, combining simple ingredients and coming up with great combinations, they are living their best life!
It feels very homey and welcoming at Sole Mio and the food is beautifully uncomplicated. We recommend starting with the Carpaccio di Manzo, super thin pieces of steak with generous slices of parmesan in a homemade vinaigrette. The vinaigrette has the perfect amount of citrus and makes this dish very light and enjoyable to eat, a perfect antipasto for your Italian meal. Popular choices are the Tagliatelle alla Bolognesa, a signature Italian dish, and the Ravioli di Pesce con Sugo di Gamberi, mout-watering ravioli filled with fresh white fish and served with gigantic shrimp. One of our absolute favourites is the Filetto di Manzo Tournedo, a huge tender fillet wrapped up in bacon with chunky slices of smooth potato. And finally, one of the specials at the moment is the Gnocchi Sole Mio which might make its way onto the menu very soon – we sure hope so!
It’s a lovely experience dining at Sole Mio. You’ll be absolutely mesmerised watching your pasta being made by hand on the old pasta maker all the way from Italy! All food is prepared fresh with locally sourced ingredients in a very open kitchen – it’s a bit like being in the dining room of your uncle’s Italian house in the hills of Italy.
