MERIDA WEEKLY EVENTS UPDATE

Merida is known for its lively cultural life and the city of Merida has several free events around the city. However, because of the recent construction in the Plaza Grande y in other parts of the centro, some of the usual locations for the events have been changed. Here is the updated information! We encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the city.  

Vaqueria Yucateca Traditional Yucatecan Folk Dancing and Jarana

The ballet of the Mérida City Council represents the town’s festivities which goes back to the 18th century. Enjoy regional music, dress, and sing along with the traditional “bombas” in this wonderful performance.

MUSICAL REMINISCENCES

You will hear the sounds from the early 20th Century including boleros, son, mambo and other latin rhythms. You will find many people partner dancing, the food stalls are open and it’s a fun atmosphere.

TROVA TUESDAYS

Trova Tuesday offers a romantic evening filled with the characteristic music of the Yucatecan lands. It’s an opportunity to enjoy soft melodies and profound lyrics, interpreted by talented troubadours who captivate with their art. This intimate gathering invites attendees to immerse themselves in the tranquil and emotive atmosphere of trova, where they can create special moments and unforgettable memories to the rhythm of the region’s most emblematic songs.

YUCATECAN SERENADE

The Serenade of Santa Lucía is an evening full of Yucatecan tradition, celebrating local culture with trova, poetry, and folklore. During the event, musical trios will perform, delighting the audience with their music, as well as unique dances from the region that will captivate attendees. You can also enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants in the plaza. It’s a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture and music of Yucatán while enjoying a charming evening under the starry sky of Santa Lucía.

Pok Ta Pok

The pok ta pok ball game is a representation of the ancient Maya sport, where two teams face off in a ritual combat aiming to prevail over the other. MERIDA ON SUNDAY

“Mérida en Domingo” is a vibrant family event that offers a wide range of activities to enjoy during the weekend. From traditional food, to exploring local craft stalls and acquiring unique pieces, this event has something for everyone. Sunday is a fun day to explore the city. The streets are blocked off for bicyclers of all ages to enjoy the streets, there is music, cultural events and more!
