The 2024 Forest Crusade: Making Merida Greener

Merida is in dire need of more trees and vegetation especially as we see temperatures reach over 45 degrees Celsius.

The 2024 Forest Crusade is in its 11th edition, and with much effort since 2014, 107,253 trees have been planted. This year’s goal is to plant 8,500 trees, contributing to the ambitious goal of the 2021-2024 administration to reach 150,000 trees. From September 2021 to March 2024, 128,605 trees have been planted.

With an expected participation of about 4,000 people in this initiative, this summer 18 planting events have been scheduled and at each event 450 trees will be planted. If you want to help the environment of our city and help plant a tree, you are welcome to join!

When can you participate?

June 14th to July 14th on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The official launch will be on June 14th at the South Sports Unit “Henry Martín”. Having more greenery in a city is not only good for our physical and mental health, but it’s a win for the environment, making the air cleaner and helping tackle climate change.

How to register?

Citizens are invited to register, whether they are groups of companies, universities, NGOs, or residents, by sending an email to cruzadaforestal@merida.gob.mx.

Making Merida Greener

In addition to the Forest Crusade, the municipality has other forest programs underway, such as Adopt a Tree, Arborize Yourself, special adoption modules in neighborhoods and companies, public space events, and other reforestation initiatives. Planting actions are also carried out in specific locations, as part of the Urban Parking and Floors Program, including the Universidad Modelo, the Xoclán Cemetery, and the Extreme Sports Park.
