Why this first edition matters — and why we’re excited
If you’ve been paying attention, you already know this: Yucatán has quietly become a very interesting place to experience contemporary art in Mexico. Artists from around the world are living and working here, galleries are taking real risks, and the conversations feel thoughtful rather than trend-chasing.
Enter WAY: Week of Art Yucatán, running January 27–31, 2026 — the first edition of what is clearly designed to become an annual Art Week for the region, and a natural prelude to Mexico City Art Week and Zona MACO, but with its own pace, geography, and point of view.
WAY is showcasing what already exists in the art scene — and inviting people to step inside it.
What is WAY?
WAY (Week of Art Yucatán) is a five-day celebration of contemporary art, design, music, film, and convivial gatherings, unfolding across Mérida and surrounding locations. It brings together local and international artists, curators, galleries, project spaces, and cultural thinkers, with a program that balances substance and pleasure.
Expect:
- Serious art talks and screenings
- Site-specific exhibitions in haciendas and studios
- A city-wide gallery tour
- Sobremesas, tastings, and long conversations
- And yes — proper parties
This is an art week for people who care about context as much as content.
Salón Gallos
WAY’s home base is Salón Gallos, a space that needs no introduction if you’ve been following Mérida’s cultural scene. With over six years of programming and more than 150 cultural events, Gallos naturally anchors the week — hosting talks, screenings, performances, tastings, and the Grand Finale closing party.

Why this first edition matters
WAY feels important because it’s measured, confident, and rooted in place. It reflects the reality of Yucatán’s art scene today — international but local, ambitious but grounded. As a first edition, it sets the tone for what could become a yearly Art Week in Yucatán, and a key stop on Mexico’s contemporary art calendar.
We’ll be there. You should be too.
