Corleone a la LEÑA
Mid CityBeat is really excited to tell you about Corleone, a pizza-pasta restaurant that we recently discovered hidden away in Francisco de Montejo in the north of Merida.
The owners of Corleone a la LEÑA are husband and wife team Antonio and Viridiana, who came to Merida after leaving behind their lives in Guerrero and were inspired to join the growing gastronomy scene here in the White City. Now they have Corleone: Pizza, Pasta y Mas a la Leña. It’s a small, outdoors space with a stone oven and grill and a pizza and pasta menu based on how much fun one can have when making these
On the pizza menu you’ll find some great options (for meat lovers and vegetarians alike) and then, when you’ve ordered, you can watch your pizza being prepared from scratch right in front of you. We guarantee that you’ll love the simplicity of the pizza base which has just 3 ingredients (we could tell you but then we’d have to kill you) and is made fresh with care and passion.
Watch as this homemade becomes a crisp and piping hot pizza directly from the stone pizza oven in front of your very eyes. We recommend the Vegetarian Pizza and the Maduardos Pizza both with the perfect amount of toppings to satisfy your pizza needs. Another great item on the menu are the stuffed mushrooms which are divine. Filled with pancetta and brimming with melted cheese, you’ll be ordering seconds!
You’ll see on the menu that it tells you to ask for the suggestion of the day. This is because Antonio and Viridiana have adopted an ‘open menu’ approach to cooking. Every day is completely different with new and fun creations making their way from the kitchen, from pastas to quesadillas, pies to salads. When we visited Corleone we tried the special of the day which was a 4 cheese ravioli, fresh pasta made on the day stuffed with amazing cheeses with a homemade pesto dressing – due to its popularity this pasta dish has made it onto their regular menu! Ask for the BBQ ribs, served with a jacket potato, which are incredible. The ribs have been cooked to perfection and so the meat just falls off the bone.
Corleone is a family-run business where everything is homemade with heart and soul and a pinch of Guerrero flavour. Antonio and Viridiana are making food that’s easy and simple to prepare but adding their own spin on recipes and cooking methods with delicious and entertaining results.
