I recently had the pleasure of staying in a stunning colonial vacation rental right across from the iconic Santa Ana Park and the historic Santa Ana Church—two of the most emblematic landmarks in Mérida, Yucatán. This location is one of our favorites in Merida. You are in the heart of the city, where heritage and everyday life blend seamlessly.
Just steps away, you’ll find Paseo de Montejo, the city’s grand boulevard lined with elegant mansions, museums, and chic cafés. In the other direction is Calle 47, now known as Mérida’s Culinary Corridor, where some of the best restaurants and cocktail bars await. Whether you’re in the mood for sophisticated dining or a casual mezcal under twinkling patio lights, everything is within a short walk. Even Parque La Plancha, Mérida’s new urban oasis, and the main Cathedral are just a 15-minute stroll from the front door.
A House with Heart
What sets this vacation rental apart is the palpable love that has been poured into every corner. The house showcases a beautiful mix of old and new. Original pasta tiles—transported from the owner’s grandfather’s home—add warmth and authenticity to every room. Family heirlooms give the space a soul, telling quiet stories of generations past while blending seamlessly with contemporary comforts.
There are three spacious bedrooms and three bathrooms, each thoughtfully decorated to preserve the home’s colonial character without compromising modern convenience. In the airy living areas, you’ll find touches of Mérida’s traditional architecture, from high-beamed ceilings to colorful tilework.
Outdoor Living at Its Best
Perhaps my favorite feature is the covered outdoor kitchen overlooking the pool. Last night, we cooked dinner surrounded by flickering candles and the scent of tropical plants. The kitchen is fully equipped, making it easy to prepare everything from simple breakfasts to elaborate Yucatecan feasts.
After dinner, we lounged in the poolside reading nook, listening to the jazz, and were shocked at how quiet it was considering that it’s in the center of the city. The moon was peaking over the towering cacti. It was lovely. It’s that combination of serenity and beauty that makes Mérida so special.
There’s even a washer and dryer, a detail that seasoned travelers will appreciate, along with fast Wi-Fi and air conditioning to keep you comfortable in every season.
The Magic of Santa Ana
Santa Ana has become one of Mérida’s most desirable areas for vacation stays and Airbnbs, thanks to its vibrant mix of art galleries, neighborhood cantinas, and artisan markets. In the mornings, you can stroll across the street to grab fresh juice and tamales from the market stalls before setting out to explore. In the evenings, the park comes alive with music and neighbors gathering under the trees.
This house is more than a place to sleep—it’s an invitation to experience Mérida’s colonial elegance, modern creativity, and warm community spirit all at once.
If you’re planning a trip to Mérida, Yucatán and looking for a vacation rental that feels like home, this gem in Santa Ana should be high on your list.
