The Best “Suadero” in Merida at La Reforma Autentica Cantina

On Avenida Libano in a small plaza, there is a cantina style gem for Mexican food! Unpretentious and a casual cantina vibe this restaurant/cantina/sports bar has low ceilings, A/C, tinted windows, the latest sports on TV, it’s always packed and the food is freaking awesome.

They had me at “suadero”, but really everything on the menu is delicious. La Reforma opened seven years ago and is a hot spot for people living in the area. They just added a nice new bar which officially gives it a cantina feeling. So now you can just go by yourself and get a drink and the special of the day or reserve a table with friends. The chef and the owner have worked together for over 20 years and he brings out authentic flavors that feel like you are eating at the best kitchen in any Mexican town.

They have a special each week which this week were the sopes with arrachera and bone marrow which were super flavorful. We also have had the chamorro, the chicharron prensado with melted cheese in a blue flour tortilla, pork in salsa morita, the chistorra and queso fundido (a big plate of melted cheese with little sausages) is a sinful delight. They also do desserts and we tried churros dipped in cajeta and a usual favorite is the flan.

Because it’s such a popular spot, you should definitely reserve a table
