One of the main tourist attractions in Yucatan are Cenotes, which since ancient times have served different purposes in Maya civilization, from a water source to a sacrificial well where they believed that Chaak, the god of rain, lived.
Did you know that it is estimated that some 8,000 cenotes have been discovered in Yucatan?
This phenomena was caused by the impact of a meteorite that impacted the earth 66 million years ago in Chicxulub, causing the extinction of thousands of species, including the dinosaurs.
Many of these cenotes today are great for families, travelers, and even researchers who continue to discover clues and offerings that give us a clearer vision of the history of these natural wonders.
Cenotes play an important role in nature, and in Maya culture they were considered the entrance to Xibalbá or "the underworld."
Before leaving, we share today's weather!
When you visiting a cenote, we recommend you:
Not use repellent or other chemical products that can damage the ecological environment.
Shower before entering the cenote.
If you dive, avoid kicking strongly underwater to not stir up sediment. It’s best to doa scuba frog kick.
Avoid touching the roots of trees, walls, or any object underwater. Let’s help conserve the natural environment.
Pick up all the garbage in the area before leaving to avoid contamination and damaging the entire ecosystem around them.
