                     October 15 – 17 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) Rio Lagartos, Las Coloradas, Ek-Balam, Izamal 2 nights 3 days

Rio Lagartos is a brilliant bioreserve where we will find many migrating and resident birds including flamigos (the third largest colony in the world). And Las Coloradas is the 2nd largest salt flats of Northern & Central America.

Day 1-
  • 7:30am departure from Merida, stop at Motul’s marketplace for huevos motuleños breakfast
  • Continue to Rio Lagartos, check in
  • at hotel, time for swimming at the beach,
  • Lunch (not included)
  • Afternoon-sunset boat ride to the estuary, for nature and bird watching. Night at leisure
  • Overnight Rio Lagartos
Day 2-
  • 8am Breakfast (included),
  • Departure to Las Coloradas salt flats and beach, we’ll explore the area
  • Cenote Peten Tucha for bird watching
  • Lunch (not included)
  • Return to Rio Lagartos, beach party.
  • overnight Rio Lagartos
Day 3-
  • 8am Breakfast
  • Option A.- Depart for the archaeological site of Ek-Balam guided visit
  • Continue to Izamal for lunch, visit the main square, church, and monastery
  • Return to Mérida.
  • Option B.- Boat ride at the estuary for bird watching, free time at the beach
  • Lunch (not included) departure to Merida stopping at Izamal for a visit to the church and monastery, return to Merida.

October 25 Monday  HANAL PIXAN DAY TRIP Pomuch

Experience a sacred Hanal Pixan (the Day of the Dead) ceremony at the Pomuch cemetery in Campeche: the washing of the bones. Visit a family home where we will see how the traditional tamal mucbilpollo is prepared and cooked and we will eat with a local family.  

  • Early 7am departure from Mérida towards the village of Pomuch
  • arrive to a local family home to cook the traditional meal for Hanal Pixan, the mucbilpollos, 
  • We’ll then continue on to visit the graveyard for the ceremony of cleaning the remains and decoration the graves. This is a unique tradition, that is practiced no where else in Mexico.   
  • Visit a local and traditional bakery, and then head back to the family home to have lunch with them
  • Head back to Merida arrival between 6-7pm.

Cost per person $3,000 Mexican pesos

  • Included: transportation, guide and lunch at the family home

November 6th Saturday Day Trip Mayapan, Mani y Dzan

Visit the fascinating archaeological site of Mayapan, the town of Mani, filled with rich history and many stories as well as visit the local farms of Dzan. We will have an enriching culinary experience in a traditional Maya kitchen. 

  • 7:30am departure from Mérida heading towards the archaeological site of Mayapan, last dominant city (1200-1440 A.D.) on the northern part of the state of Yucatan, Carlos will give us a guided visit
  • Continue to the magical town of Mani, visit to the Franciscan monastery San Miguel Arcangel, built during the second half of the XVIth century, where friar Diego de Landa burned dozens of Maya codices. Carlos will give us a guided visit
  • Authentic lunch experience at a Maya family home restaurant (not included)
  • short drive to the community of Dzan to visit the local farms and meet the farmers (vegetables and fruits).
  • Return to Merida

November 20 – 21  (Saturday and Sunday) Valladolid, Uayma, Ek-Balam, Tihosuco Caste War of Yucatan

Day 1

  • 7:30am Departure from Merida Towards Valladolid, Rest Stop
  • Visit Caste War museum in the village of Tihosuco an important village during the war where the fighting was intense.
  • Go to Valladolid, lunch (not included)
  • Check in at hotel, guided walking tour around the centro of the city with Carlos. Option to watch video mapping of convent if available.
  • Overnight Valladolid

Day 2

  • 8am Breakfast (Hotel Check Out)
  • Departure towards Uayma, a nearby village to visit the church and convent
  • Continue to Ek-balam for a guided visit of the site
  • Continue To Izamal For Lunch (not included) And a guided visit to the Franciscan Monastery Of San Antonio de Padua, built during the second half of the XVI century
  • Return To Merida.

Cost per person $4300 Mexican pesos   Min 6 participants

  • Included: Transportation, Guide During All The Program.
  • Not Included: Hotel, meals and entrance fees to musuem, church, and archaeological sites.
