Merida Inaugurates an Immersive Park Combining Technology, Culture, and Tradition

Wednesday December 13

La Peni, the first immersive park in Latin America, is a new treasure for Mérida. A space that combines technology, culture, and tradition, to offer a unique experience to visitors.

The park will be located in the space formed by la ex Penitenciaría de Juárez, better known as “La Peni,” and the iconic Parque de la Paz, the gateway to the city’s historic center.

The project has been in development for over five years and features the latest technology in art and   entertainment.

At night, smart lamps will illuminate the trees in Parque de la Paz, causing them to come to life accompanied by sounds of the region’s fauna, thanks to spatial audio created by artificial intelligence.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of interactive activities, including:

  • Seeds: Create your own seeds, choose the shape, color, and texture, and launch them onto the facade of La Peni. When the seed explodes, you will discover different animals from the region.
  • Comets: Use the “estelas” (giant interactive tablets) to energize comets through motion sensors.
  • Constellations: Use the flash of your smartphone to generate unique and unforgettable constellations.
  • Digital curtain: People standing in the portals will be able to “pass through” a digital curtain with their arms, thanks to motion sensors, and discover hidden elements.
  • Videomapping: A large projection of 140 meters that shows a unique spectacle with essences from the past of the Yucatec culture, using digital and sound elements.

The park will be open to the public from Thursday to Sunday, starting at 6:00 PM, free of charge.

This project represents a major boost for the culture and tourism of Mérida, and makes it a city at the forefront of technology and entertainment.
