Sabor a Yucatan:
Promoting Yucatecan Gastronomy

Virtual Classes with some of Yucatan's Best Chefs

As we all know if we live here in Yucatan or read about what is going on in this beautiful state, we have been hit hard by the pandemic crisis. Not only have many Yucatecan women, children and men of all ages been infected, but the state has been forced to issue strict quarantine protocols which means that hundreds of thousands of residents have lost their jobs and have had to reinvent themselves however they can. One of the areas that has been greatly affected is the restaurant and food production sector.

Yucatan has a rich history in gastronomy where the dance between the Mayan and Spanish cultures dominates your palate. You will encounter ingredients such as pumpkin seeds, oregano, red onion, sour orange, chile dulce, lime, tomato, achiote, chile xcat, chile habanero, chile max and cilantro among many others. Corn is also a main stable and is traditionally sacred in the Mayan culture. The Yucatecan dish is always colorful and super flavorful!

Sabor a Yucatan

Sabor a Yucatan is a new platform that looks to promote the richness of the gastronomy of Yucatan and to help rebuild the culinary sector of this state which has been deeply affected by Covid19. They highlight and promote restaurants, gastronomy and agriculture by sharing with users an experience of virtual cooking classes given by some of the top chefs of Yucatan.

They will be featuring a Chef each week in a pre-recorded video telling us how to make a dish specific to Yucatan–although as we know, a chef will always put his special twist in it! The food enthusiast can buy access to the video and in doing so they will get the box of ingredients to be used in the recipe. All the ingredients come from local farmers and food producers. The experience can be for 2 or 4 persons.

The clases are professionally pre-recorded with three cameras, so watching and participating will be like watching a Netflix Series. It’s a great way to get to know who some of the top chefs are, support the local restaurants and food producers and to have fun!

All proceeds are divided between the chefs, the food producers and the creators of the show. Each week they will be announcing on their social media which chef will be giving the lesson as well as providing the link to buy the class.
