Valladolid is a stop on the Tren Maya and we are putting together lists of things you can do while you visit this region that is so rich in history and cultural heritage! One of the things to take advantage of in the area is a trip to the Selva Maya Eco-Adventure Park just about 15 minutes from the center of Valladolid, Yucatan. Known for its breathtaking natural beauty, adrenaline-provoking activities, and rich Yucatecan culture, Selva Maya has something for everyone, making it a perfect destination for tourists looking for adventure and relaxation.
Zipline Through the Lush Canopy
For adrenaline seekers, Selva Maya’s zipline is a must-try. Soar through the treetops and feel the wind rush by as you take in panoramic views of the park’s lush jungle. The zipline circuit offers a unique perspective of the verdant landscape, immersing you in the raw beauty of the Yucatecan wilderness. It’s a perfect blend of thrill and nature, making it one of the park’s most popular attractions. Also, it’s for all ages. Although I was a bit terrified, the couple after us were holding their 4-year-old child, who was also harnessed, and he enjoyed the zipline as well!
Scenic Bike Ride Through the Jungle
Selva Maya also offers a scenic bike ride through its vast gardens and jungle trails. Pedal your way through winding paths surrounded by tropical plants, towering trees, and the sounds of nature. The bike ride is a great way to explore the park’s flora and fauna while staying active, and it’s a family-friendly, fun and leisurely activity.
Explore the Cenote: Nature’s Hidden Gem
One of the standout attractions at Hacienda Selva Maya is the breathtaking Cenote Saamal. They have created a man-made waterfall, but the cenote is millions of years old! It’s absolutely stunning. And very inviting after zipping over the canopy or biking through the gardens. Or just walking around the Yucatecan heat….
Stroll Through the Gardens
For those looking to take things slow, Selva Maya’s well-maintained gardens are a botanical wonderland. Filled with colorful native plants, these gardens provide a tranquil atmosphere for a leisurely stroll. You’ll find yourself surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant flowers that thrive in the Yucatecan climate, making it a perfect backdrop for photography or simply unwinding.
Enjoy a Buffet of Traditional Yucatecan Flavors
They have an impressive buffet for both breakfast and lunch! And like the old-school buffets, you can find pretty much anything on that table. What I liked is that there is a lot of options for salads, vegetables, and fresh fruit. All the food is prepared fresh each day with an emphasis on regional Yucatecan food. From cochinita pibil to fresh tortillas, the buffet showcases the region’s rich culinary traditions. Whether you’re craving a hearty meal or a refreshing agua fresca, the buffet caters to all tastes. There is also a bar where you can have a cold margarita (virgin or not!) to cool off in the afternoons.Â
Getting There: Bus, Tren Maya, Car oh my!
Selva Maya’s location near Valladolid makes it easily accessible for those traveling by, bus car or the Tren Maya. If you’re coming by train, you can enjoy a scenic journey that drops you off close to the park, where shuttles or taxis can take you directly to the entrance. For those driving, the park is just a short trip from Valladolid, and you can follow well-marked routes through the scenic Yucatecan countryside.
Selva Maya is a curated park, yet maintains it’s local and regional feel and essence. It’s a good choice for families and those who would like an all in one place experience.Â
