Casa Proyecto 459 Modern Style Restaurant and Bar in Merida, Yucatan

Proyecto Casa 459: A Retro-Inspired Restaurant and Hidden Bar in Mérida

Some restaurants serve dinner. Others transport you somewhere else entirely.

At Proyecto Casa 459, dinner feels less like going out to eat and more like being invited to a very stylish house party thrown by someone with impeccable taste in films, music, cocktails, and comfort food. If Fellini designed the interiors and Stanley Kubrick selected the soundtrack while someone quietly spiked the punch bowl, the result might look something like this delightfully eccentric spot tucked away along Calle 62.

One of the things we appreciate most about Casa 459 is that it never feels static. The kitchen introduces monthly specials, which means there is always an excuse to return and discover something new. In a city filled with excellent dining options, finding a restaurant that encourages repeat visits simply through curiosity is surprisingly refreshing.

A Retro Escape Hidden in Plain Sight

Stepping inside Proyecto Casa 459 feels like entering a cinematic fever dream inspired by the 1960s, with playful nods to 1970s nostalgia layered throughout the space.

Vintage details, mood lighting, colorful accents, and eclectic décor combine to create an atmosphere that somehow manages to feel both sophisticated and wonderfully unpretentious. It is the kind of place where you can imagine lingering over cocktails for hours, moving effortlessly from appetizers into dessert without once checking the time.

And then there is the hidden bonus.

Tucked behind the restaurant is Sala Sala, Casa 459’s hidden cocktail bar, which transforms the entire back house into a playful homage to the 1960s. Every room becomes part of the experience: guests can sip creative cocktails and sway to DJ sets from the retro-inspired (and delightfully non-functional) bathroom, linger in the vintage kitchen, settle into the cozy living room, or gather under the stars on the backyard terrace. It feels less like visiting a bar and more like being invited to an impossibly stylish house party where every corner begs to be explored, open Wednesday through Saturday evenings. It adds another dimension to the experience, making Casa 459 feel like two destinations under one roof.

The Dishes That Stayed With Us

On our most recent visit, we started with the Tuna Tostada.

Fresh, vibrant, and beautifully balanced, it immediately established the tone for the evening.

But the biggest surprise of the night was undoubtedly the homemade sausage. Served over a bed of potatoes, it was rich, comforting, deeply flavorful, and honestly one of the most unexpectedly memorable dishes we’ve eaten in Mérida this month.

Pasta, Risotto and a Tiramisu Worth Saving Room For

The Pesto Pasta with Burrata offered a completely different expression of comfort food.

Perfectly al dente pasta was coated in fragrant basil pesto enriched with garlic, walnuts, and Parmesan, while creamy burrata and sweet cherry tomatoes brought freshness and balance to every bite.

The Shrimp Risotto was equally impressive.

Cooked in shrimp stock and white wine, finished with Parmesan, and subtly layered with notes of carrot and ginger, it managed to feel indulgent without becoming heavy. The ginger in particular was a thoughtful touch, adding warmth and complexity without overshadowing the seafood.

Dessert was non-negotiable.

The tiramisu arrived as the ideal finale: light, creamy, delicately sweet, and exactly the kind of dessert that reminds you why some classics never need reinvention.

Cocktails, Nostalgia, and Reasons to Return

Part of Casa 459’s charm lies in its ability to create an entire evening rather than simply a meal.

Order a creative cocktail or mocktail, settle into one of the cozy corners, and it becomes easy to understand why this has quietly become one of our favorite recent discoveries in Mérida.

The rotating specials keep the menu evolving, the atmosphere invites lingering conversations, and the hidden bar offers the possibility of extending dinner into the early hours of the morning.

For visitors searching for something beyond the traditional Yucatecan dining experience, or locals hoping to rediscover Mérida through a different lens, Proyecto Casa 459 delivers something increasingly rare: surprise.
