Wagu burgers and comfort food in Merida, Yucatan

WAGU Mérida: Smash Burgers, Truffle Fries & Sauce Heaven

Some lunches are carefully planned. Others accidentally turn into an all-out comfort-food marathon. Our recent visit to WAGU at Vector Plaza was definitely the latter.

My mom and I originally stopped in thinking we’d order a burger, maybe split some fries, and call it a day. Instead, lunch turned into one of those wonderfully indulgent afternoons where every few minutes someone says, “Okay… but we should probably try one more thing.” And honestly? We have zero regrets.

For anyone who appreciates smash burgers, elevated fast-casual concepts, or simply enjoys the occasional cheat day done properly, WAGU is a fun addition to Mérida’s growing food scene.

Smash Burgers Made with Premium Beef

WAGU’s concept revolves around comfort food made with noticeably high-quality ingredients, particularly their selection of Wagyu and Black Angus beef.

The standout for us was easily the Blue Cheese Burger. The crispy-edged wagyu smash patty was topped with creamy blue cheese dressing and a sweet onion marmalade that hit all the right notes — salty, sweet, rich, and gloriously messy in the best possible way.

WAGU works with an artisanal bakery to produce their brioche buns exclusively for the restaurant, and you can absolutely taste the difference. Soft, buttery, slightly sweet, and sturdy enough to hold together despite all the juicy chaos happening inside.

If you enjoy burgers that lean unapologetically decadent, this one deserves a spot on your Mérida burger bucket list.

Fries, Wraps and Chicken Fingers We Couldn’t Stop Eating

Of course, ordering just a burger wasn’t happening. The garlic truffle fries disappeared within minutes. Thin, crispy, generously coated in a garlicky truffle sauce, they were dangerously snackable.

The chicken tenders were another surprise favorite, crunchy on the outside, juicy inside, and customizable with an impressive selection of dipping sauces.

Then came the WAGU Wrap, which can only be described as beautifully chaotic. Stuffed with Wagyu beef, American cheese, fries, and their signature sauce, it’s indulgent comfort food wrapped up into one handheld package.

And just when we thought we’d reached maximum fullness, dessert arrived. The lotus cheesecake may have been my favorite bite of the afternoon. Creamy, decadent, and just sweet enough without becoming overwhelming, it’s one of those desserts you’ll probably think about later.

The Sauce Situation is Serious

WAGU’s sauce menu deserves its own category. At some point, our table essentially turned into an unofficial sauce-tasting session.

We tried:

🔥 Hot Honey 🌶 Mango Habanero 🧄 Garlic Truffle🍋 Lemon Pepper 🍗 Buffalo 🍖 BBQ 🌶 Spicy BBQ

WAGU also offers sodas, beer, and coffee, making it an easy stop whether you’re meeting friends, grabbing lunch after shopping near Galerías, or satisfying a serious burger craving.
