Baretto: Merida’s First Italian Style Espresso Bar–Trendy, Quick Coffee and Go

On Merida’s trendy “culinary row” Calle 47 and 56, Baretto, a new Italian style espresso bar, has joined the neighborhood. It’s a perfect location for a quick coffee stop, a bite to eat, or chat with friends. As you walk into Baretto, you find a long marble espresso bar resembling the marble countertops gracing countless coffee bars in Rome, Italy.  On the wall opposite the bar, you see  a photo wallpaper of a Roman barista serving a cup of coffee, transporting you to little Italy right here on the 47.  You feel invited to stand at the bar and order an espresso accompanied with a chocolate truffle or small tiramisu – perché no?

At Baretto you can order coffee-to-go through their walk up window, come inside and order at the bar for a quick espresso, or sit down at one of their 4 two-person tables. The cafe has an excellent choice of coffee from Oaxaca and Veracruz; and their barista is very knowledgeable about the various ways to prepare a great cup of joe including a full hot bar menu and cold brews. The menu includes delicious paninis and open faced sandwiches both meat and vegetarian as well as freshly baked croissants, sweet breads and incredible individual sized desserts. My favorite was the carrot cake.

As usual, I am very happy to see yet another addition to the Calle 47 area. It’s just a block from Paseo de Montejo and is a great place to stop as you are strolling down Paseo, biking at the bicycle route on Sunday morning, or if you just need a quick coffee fix on your way to the office. Baretto opens at 7:30am, a perk because most coffee shops in Centro tend to open at 8 or 8:30am. So next time you are in the area, pop by and give it a try. MID City recommends!
