Mérida’s classical music calendar is filling up for fall, and the Yucatán Symphony Orchestra 2026 season brings an exciting mix of film music, Mexican composers, opera and European classics to the city from September through December.
The season begins with a special cinematic concert at Teatro Armando Manzanero before moving to Palacio de la Música for eight programs featuring music by composers including Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Prokofiev, Verdi, Arturo Márquez and José Pablo Moncayo.
For music lovers in Mérida, there is plenty to put on the calendar.
Hollywood Sinfónico: From John Williams to Hans Zimmer
The OSY starts September with something a little different: Hollywood Sinfónico con la OSY.
More than 70 musicians will take the stage for a journey through some of cinema’s most recognizable soundtracks, from John Williams to Hans Zimmer. Expect music from films including Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, Interstellar, La La Land, E.T. and Indiana Jones.

Programa Mexicano
The Palacio de la Música season officially begins with a celebration of Mexican orchestral music.
The program features Silvestre Revueltas’ Sensemayá, Carlos Chávez’s Sinfonía India, Arturo Márquez’s beloved Danzón No. 2 and Conga del Fuego, José Pablo Moncayo’s Huapango, Manuel Ponce’s Ferial, Daniel Ayala’s Sinfonía de las Américas Op. 2 and the world premiere of Roberto Abraham’s Navem, Maris et Venti.

Nuevo Mundo

Espíritu & Poesía
Spanish-Mexican horn soloist Juan José Pastor joins the orchestra for a program bringing together works by Mendelssohn, Glière and Schubert.

El Coro en la Ópera
Opera takes center stage as the orchestra is joined by the Coro de Cámara de Yucatán de la SEDECULTA and Coro U Káay Paalal del CECUNY.
The evening explores some of opera’s memorable orchestral and choral music, with works by Mascagni, Rossini and Puccini.

Bellas Artes

El Arte de la Transcripción
Flutist Joaquín Melo and pianist Carlos Camacho are featured in a program exploring the art of musical transcription.
The repertoire includes Francis Poulenc’s Sonata for Flute and Piano, including the orchestral version by Lennox Berkeley, alongside César Franck’s Symphony in D Minor.

November closes with a musical trip to Austria featuring Mozart and Johann Strauss II.
